ABOUT
Born in East Orange, NJ, Damar was bred into the world of music. He strongly remembers falling in love with music at a young age while watching his father tour with Stephanie Mills and popular a capella group, 14 Karat Soul. His uncle also toured with Whitney Houston and is currently a longstanding member of Earth, Wind & Fire. With early exposure to the music and entertainment industry, Damar developed a deep fascination with performance, travel, and the transformative power of music.
During his middle school years, Damar attended The Newark Boys Chorus School, where his foundation was solidified through a rigorous balance of academic and musical excellence. During this time, he traveled across three continents, performing a diverse repertoire at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, The White House, and Buckingham Palace.
Damar continued his studies at the Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts, where he performed for notable figures such as Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Cicely Tyson. Alongside his classical training, he was also an original member of ‘G-fy-G,’ a high-energy, urban contemporary gospel choir recognized for its vocal precision, dynamic movement, and stage presence.
It was during his senior year of high school that Damar discovered music production through a newly introduced Music Technology course, an experience that would ultimately shape the trajectory of his career. After creating his first beat, he committed to further developing his craft.
While attending William Paterson University, Damar sold his first beat and launched his production company, Danger Zone Entertainment. His entrepreneurial drive and musical versatility quickly positioned him as one of the most sought-after producers in the Tri-state area. During this time, he worked with artists such as Rotimi and Dawn Richard of Danity Kane, among others.
In 2012, driven by ambition and a vision for greater opportunity, Damar relocated to Los Angeles, CA. There, he expanded his network and began building a reputation on a larger scale, collaborating with artists such as Chrystian Lehr and Jake & Papa. His early success included composing music for Lifetime’s “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B,” one of the highest-rated television films of 2014.
In 2015, Damar was introduced to R&B sensation Mya. Mya enlisted the musical expertise of Damar, and a host of others for her album "Smoove Jones". With collaboration of these musical talents, this project was nominated for a Grammy.
Motivated by his growing success and 'Grammy-Nominated' title addition, Damar decided to reach back to his roots of performing, emerging as an R&B artist. With his first commercial release "12|12", prompting a series of annual EP releases on his birthday, Damar cultivated a dedicated fan base, blending progressive production, compelling songwriting, and dynamic vocal performance into a distinct artistic identity.
Building on this momentum, Damar has continued to expand his footprint across both music and visual media. His work has led to collaborations with artists such as Eric Bellinger, Teamarrr and D Smoke, as well as placements on major platforms including HBO’s Insecure and Netflix’s Rhythm & Flow, reflecting his ability to create culturally resonant records that translate across mediums.
Damar continues to evolve as both a creator and visionary, with a strong focus on developing the next generation of talent. He is currently working closely with emerging artist Eniyyah, his first artist, whom he discovered and has been instrumental in developing, producing, and shaping from the ground up. Through his work, Damar remains committed to pushing creative boundaries while building a lasting impact in music and culture.
